Gratitude will shift the energy

Mornings are always a bit chaotic getting four children up, dressed, fed and out the door for school. I was cooking eggs for one child when my oldest, who was running late, shouted "Can you please iron these pants?"

I looked down at the eggs and then over to the clock. Grimacing I ran up the steps, grabbed the corduroy's, which looked like they had been stuffed in a ball in the back of the closet, and threw open the ironing board.

I could feel some "salty" words, as my grandmother used to call them, bubbling up in my mouth. My mother had always just reached for the bar of soap. Apparently that treatment had not worked as my vocalizations grew louder.

I worked frantically on the wrinkles which smoothed and then mockingly popped back up. I heard sizzling. Crap the eggs!

I sprinted down the hall, vaulted over a cat, and snatched the pan off the stove. Back up the stairs, same cat still sat, and I worked to finish the pants. I once again felt my irritation seasoning my word choices.

And then I stopped.

My oldest turns 18 in a few months. It struck me that there would not be many more mornings when he would be in the house to ask me to iron anything.

An instant shift came over me. Grateful for the moments that I did have with all four children that morning.

Gratitude. It shifts the energy and creates new possibilities for your day.

So start the shift. What are you grateful for today?
